What size/power air compressor do you use to blow out lines on inground pool for winterization?

Question by sonotech02: What size/power air compressor do you use to blow out lines on inground pool for winterization?
Last year we used a shop vac on blow, but it’s not working on the return jet for some reason. We’d like to buy an air compressor for that and just to have around the garage. What size/power or whatever they are measured in is required to blow out the lines for a pool? They are about 20-30 feet long. And how do you create a seal over the pipe to blow them out? When we had someone close the pool 2 years ago, they had the end of the compressor hose go into a rubber cork like thing that they put right into the pipe end. Is that something offfical you can buy, or something they created??

Answer by Bare B
A regular portable air compressor will work just fine. You will also be able to use it to keep your tire pressures up to save energy.

You didn’t say what size the pool pipe is, so go to a hardware store and ask for an electrical CGB. Inside this electrical fitting is a tapered grommet. Buy the one with the O.D. bigger than your pipe, and the I.D. slightly smaller than the diameter of your blow nozzle. Slip the grommet on the blow nozzle, and force the grommet against your pipe.

You will want to set the regulator on your compressor to approximately 40 pounds.

Good luck!

My air compressor will not fill to maximum capacity, why?

Question by David B: My air compressor will not fill to maximum capacity, why?
I have a small electric Craftsman air compressor. When I turn it on, it will only fill to about 20 pounds of pressure. Any idea what could cause that?

What tools can I use with an air compressor?

What air tools can i use with an air compressor?

Im getting an air compressor but I don’t know that much about them…..like what should of air tools should I get. I don’t know if I should get a 60 gallon tank or maybe something smaller.  How important is the psi rating?

Answer:

A 60 gallon air compressor is way too big for most things around the house. Somewhere between 2 and 5 gallon is plenty big enough if you are going to use nail guns or automotive air impact tools. One thing I find to be awesome is a “palm nailer” which I use when nailing into tight places, like joist hangers on floor trusses. It’s like a leather glove with a metal tube on the palm, you put the nail head first into the tube, and like a pneumatic joy buzzer it effortlessly pounds the nail into the hole of the joist hanger. It will nail it anywhere but that’s where I find it most useful.

What size air line to run for my air compressor?

Question by cactusajw: What size air line to run for my air compressor?
I recently bought an air compressor to airate my sprinkler system. I have 1 acre of land. Do I use an air fitting with an 1/4 or 1/2 inlet. Also what size air line do I use.
I might use it for my air impact tools. I was told not to use 1/2 inlet with my impact guns.

Best answer:

Answer by William B
depends on the CFM [cubic feet per minute, ] of your air comp, and amount of pressure you have set on compressor, 1/4 will work in most all cases, even blowing out water lines,

Is there an alternative to bolting down a vertical air compressor?

Question by Mike: Is there an alternative to bolting down a vertical air compressor?
I have a 80 gallon 2 stage air compressor. It is currently bolted down to the concrete garage floor. However, I will be moving into a house at the end of the month and the landlord does not want me drilling into the concrete floor. Is there an alternative to bolting down the compressor? Evidently bolting it down gives it structural support against the vibration. Any ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by scott k
your vertical compressor is very top heavy, you bolt it down so it won’t tip over.

get a half sheet of 3/4″ or 1″ ply wood (4′ x 4′ square) and bolt it to the plywood.

use carriage bolts from under neath with the nits on top.

that will keep it from tipping over.
